On July 6, OPOS hosted Niklas Paschburg, a young German composer and producer born in 1994, for an immersive live performance that marked the presentation of his new EP, Mexican Alps, out on the Nettwerk Music Group label. After his previous works Panta Rhei and Svalbard, Paschburg continues his sonic exploration by abandoning his instrument of choice – the piano – for the first time and relying on synths, effects and field recordings to shape an ambient-electronic mini-album dense with suggestions. Born between the mountains of southern Mexico and the peaks of Canton Valais in Switzerland, Mexican Alps is a project that blends landscapes, cultures and improvisational insights into a profound and multi-sensory musical journey. Among the tracks is Oaxaca de Juárez, a funk-tinged single enhanced by a collaboration with jazz guitarist Tal Arditi. The EP was mixed by Gijs van Klooster in a studio specializing in Atmos mixes and mastered by Bo Kondren at Calyx Studio in Berlin. An immersive sound experience, enhanced by ambient recordings made during Día de los Muertos and a cover artwork signed by American visual artist Mikhail Siskof. A must-see event for lovers of electronic music, ambient and sound experimentation. Some video works inspired by the Mexican Alps album produced by AI artists Ilaria Merola, Katsukokoiso.ai and Andrea Meregalli were screened during the evening. Video by Jacopo Graziano
