#bethesda #skyrim #wabbajack #modded #elderscrolls Alpyne is far from being a flawless modlist but it's just so much fun and, in my opinion, one of the most underrated/overlooked wabbajack modpacks. Keep in mind that this little showcase barely scratches the surface. In a nutshell, Alpyne is a dark fantasy with a more visceral, roleplaying-focused experience. It's not meant to replace Skyrim, but offer a unique perspective. What makes it so great? IMO best modded combat system. More challenging but still grounded, without those flashy, overdone animations. Skyrim isn't a Souls game. It's like vanilla, but much, MUCH more brutal and demands planning. It's not overly punishing (looking at you, Requiem) and, at the same time, not a children's playground. You can't just charge into a dungeon and clear it out like it's another Tuesday. It's hard to explain why, but combat feels addicting. NPC overhaul might be the best one I've seen so far. All characters look like their vanilla versions, just improved to fit Alpyne's aesthetic. No plastic barbie dolls with exaggerated body parts. Some prominent NPCs received additional touches to make them more unique, but nothing outlandish and immersion-breaking. Sound. Alpyne comes with a rich sound overhaul complimented by fan-based soundtracks. "Lorkhan" by young scrolls and "Nyghtfall" by Nyghttones are the main ones. Balanced out additional content without turning Skyrim into a bloated abomination. There are new armors and weapons, a few new quest mods like Sirenroot and Forgotten City and a couple of modpacks adding a number of smaller quests and dungeons throughout Skyrim. RPG focused perks enabling players to choose backgrounds and specialize in certain skills. Visuals are overall consistent, thanks to a nice selection of textures and Kauz enb preset. Skyrim feels cold and dark. It's also very stable and performance-friendly. Things I'd change/improve: LODs could be improved, especially in Whiterun hold and landscape seams need more polishing. These are pure technical issues. Alpyne has willow trees. A bit unnecessary, as I don't think they belong in Skyrim, especially in cold tundra region. Perhaps couple of willows around Falkreath would be enough. Morthal, Falkreath and Rorikstead use RedBag's overhaul and are stylistically vastly different and may not be for everyone. I'd personally prefer a single, total overhaul. For example, Whiterun, Winterhold etc. look great and are basically enhanced vanilla cities. 00:00 Reacting to Helgen scene 11:15 Character creation, backgrounds, perks 19:50 Riverwood, analyzing some NPCs 23:15 Alduin the world-ending meteor 31:02 Whiterun exploration 45:11 RedBag's Morthal is... different 49:50 RedBag's Falkreath, also different 53:28 Cracked Tusk Keep overhaul, combat showcase 1:00:30 Auri, a new Bosmer companion 1:03:13 Crossing the tundra, more combat 1:07:24 This is...
