After returning from Ushuaia, I received great help from a motorcycle mechanic in Rio Gallegos. He did an amazing job making my motorcycle rideable so I could travel to the next big city in Chile, which is Punta Arenas. However, the biggest challenge was finding a tire. Ultimately, he installed a completely worn-out tire and advised me not to ride at speeds over 50 km/h. The distance to Punta Arenas is nearly 300 km, with difficult wind conditions, and I also had to cross a border. Despite these challenges, I finally reached Punta Arenas and visited a motorcycle mechanic shop. They replaced the tire with one that had some life left in it, but for the rest of the repairs, no spare parts were available. The only option was to go to Santiago, but it’s over 3,500 km away. I was very hesitant to make the journey given my physical condition and the state of the motorcycle. The weather was also unfavorable for riding, with strong winds and rain. Kathiravan and I stayed at a hostel for a few days. During that time, I learned about a ferry service from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt, which covers almost 2,000 km. From Puerto Montt, Santiago is only 1,100 km away. I decided to explore this option Once the weather cleared, we started riding from Punta Arenas toward Puerto Natales. However, the conditions were still very challenging—cold and windy. We eventually reached Puerto Natales, where a must-see location is the Torres del Paine National Park. Since the ferry to Puerto Montt was scheduled for four days later, I decided to explore the national park by booking a day tour with a local company. It was an incredible experience. The next day, I decided to visit El Calafate in Argentina, approximately 300 km from Puerto Natales. To avoid a 70 km stretch of unpaved, rocky road, we had to take an alternate route that added nearly 100 km to the journey. El Calafate is famous for the Perito Moreno Glacier, located about 80 km from the city. We stayed in a hostel and visited the glacier the next day. It’s truly one of the must-see places. Later that same day, I returned to Puerto Natales in Chile, loaded my bike onto the ferry, and boarded it for the journey to Puerto Montt.
