This video was made in 2012. Since that time, Nepal has made some progress, but there has been little change in the Himalayas. Even now, 62% of mountain kids are stunted from hunger. Dechen, Tsering and Karma all have university degrees now. Karma is poised to finish a Master’s in Special Education (lacking in Nepal). Eighteen SMD graduates have taken “barefoot doctor” training and two of them have established health posts in the mountains. Shree Mangal Dvip (SMD) School for Himalayan Children in Kathmandu provides free education, housing and full care for over 500 children from the most vulnerable and remote Himalayan mountain villages of northern Nepal.
