The Northern Beaches community deserves answers. The Public Accounts Committee has received 255 submissions and held three days of hearings into Northern Beaches Hospital. The evidence we can refer to publicly raises serious concerns — chronic understaffing, reduced security, and systems that weren’t properly integrated. We are proceeding carefully, mindful of the ongoing coronial inquest into the tragic death of Joe Massa. Our focus is on systemic and policy failures. A public hospital was placed in private hands. The risks were real. Joe’s Law has now passed to ensure acute public hospital services are never privatised again. Public health must always put patients first.
