The longest slot canyon in the country, Buckskin Gulch is a world of ethereal colors, textures and sounds -- and owes its existence to the periodic floods that scour its walls. Usually attempted in the spring and summer, we choose the winter to have it for ourselves. But after a series of recent snow storms, the landscape was primed for some very high (and bone-chillingly cold) water. This video showcases a hidden world born of devastation and renewal that results in a unique landscape and one of our favorite hikes of all time. Sadly, two individuals of a three-person group perished in mid-March.
