Pass and support then reload into position for the next phase of the attack. Crusaders players demonstrate a passing activity moving down a wide channel and continuously realigning. This drill replicates a phase attack move followed by realignment to continue the attack. Fundamentals of the rugby pass and support play are applied in this drill including quick hands, straight running, depth and communication. This drill can be practiced by players from high school age and upwards Level: High School & Above Categories: Catching & Passing Coaching Points: 00:0:15.000 - Give an accurate pass at chest height 00:0:24.000 - Realign once the ball is two passes away from you and maintain the ability to receive a return pass 00:0:28.000 - When realigning, maintain the full width of the attack 00:0:35.000 - Communicate who has which space Common Faults: #1. Pass not accurate #2. Realigning too early #3. Drifting with the pass #4. Not holding depth on the ball carrier #5. Not holding depth on the ball carrier Progressions: #1. Add in one defender who starts beside the half-back As the ball is passed they must try and catch the ball carrier The ball carrier must get the ball to the last man or only the ball carrier can beat the defender on their inside eg Defender over runs the Instructions: #1. Set up 5 players with one ball. #2. Mark a grid 20m wide x 40m long. #3. Place 3 cones down on a diagonal on opposite sides of the grid #4. Players start on the first cone and quickly realign into position. #5. Once in position the ball is passed through the hands to the last player who runs up to the next cone. #6. All players run around this player and then realign back into position to pass off the other hand. #7. The drill continues until the players have passed 3x off both sides. Contributors: #1.
