Grey’s monument towers over Newcastle Upon Tyne, being an iconic part of the cities skyline but and did you know you can actually climb all the way to the top? Special tours happen on the first and third Saturday of each month from April to September, with only 8 tickets being available for each half hour slot so I was so pleased to have been speedy enough onto one of the first days of the season! The tour costs £7 for a half hour slot which includes the ascend and descend up the 164 steps to the top of the monument that has a total height of 133 feet! And dont worry if your knowledge of Newcastle is lacking, a guide stands at the top giving commentary on the history of the monument, as well as highlighting local Newcastle landmarks and places of interest!
