Adjusting timing belt tension with a Smartphone

First of all many many thanks to Régis Henrion for his great video that showed me how this is done (   • Réglage tension courroie avec un smartphone  ). After some research I found that one type of professional equipment used to measure the timing belt tension are just frequency meters (Unit: Hertz - Hz). So everyone can use a simple Smartphone and the right app to check the timing belt tension. Be aware that you must follow the car manufacturer instructions very carefully. In the service manual of the car there should be indicated the right frequency for the belt in your engine, the position of the engine and the right spot for measuring. Probably Your results will oscillate a little around a middle value if you make several measurements after turning the engine by hand a couple of times, but I suppose this is normal. In my Renault E7J engine, the recommended value was 144 +/- 5 Hz, but this value is different from your engine, because of the type of belt, the right tension and the length of belt free to vibrate.So, if you do not know exactly what you are doing it is always a good idea to leave it for a professional!
