A friend of fashion designer L'Wren Scott, Sir Mick Jagger's longtime girlfriend, says those who know her from the industry are left sad and confused by her apparent suicide. Jewellery designer Karen Erickson described the fashion industry as a "pressure cooker", amid revelations about the parlous finances of Ms Scott's company. But she said Scott appeared to be very happy, and "the woman who had everything." Scott, a noted fashion designer, died on Monday of an apparent suicide by hanging. Erickson and Scott were friends in Paris the 1980s when Scott would model Erickson's jewellery designs on the Paris runways. The two women kept in touch after both women moved to New York and would routinely catch up on each other's lives at design industry events. Details have emerged in Britain about financial troubles that Scott's eponymous label had been experiencing. Last month the designer cancelled her London Fashion Week show, due to reported production delays. Accounts filed by Scott's LS Fashion Ltd. in London show the company had liabilities that exceeded assets by £3.56million as of December 31, 2012. "The fashion industry is a pressure cooker," said Erickson. "The demands are huge. We're squeezed from every end. Your suppliers want to be paid in 30 days, or up front, the stores want to be paid in 90 days and they want to take a discount. There is no one in the middle to help an American designer."
