Continuing a run of HI NRG hits from the 1980's, here is perhaps the quintessential high energy track: none other than 'High Energy' by Evelyn Thomas! It was released in 1984 and I loved it immediately buying the 12 inch single. Penned and Produced by Ian Levine & Fiachra Trench, the song was a smash hit in Europe and a #1 dance hit in America, Evelyn's birth country. There is such exuberance and joie de vivre in both the vocal and the production, it became an anthem for the genre and still sounds so good nearly 40 years on. Evelyn Thomas released material before and after 'High Energy' but nothing came close to it success wise. As with recent posts of Miquel Brown and Sharon Redd, for me, to be able to find performance clips of the singers and re-edit the extended versions has been enormously enjoyable. Although I have had vinyl covers and CD's of the artists, to see the divas strut their stuff is a whole new bundle of fun! Evelyn's joy and energy is just wonderful in this clip. Levine & Trench are just brilliant in the way they created their musical gems.
