Artist Vicki Essig will explain her innovative work with silkworms that create garments without the use of scissors or thread and needle. She will also discuss her woven pieces that include spun paper and 200 year old text.Essig is a full-time artist living and working in the mountains of North Carolina. Her professional career began over two decades ago, when she studied hand weaving, textiles, and design. She later became accomplished at working with exceptionally fine yarns and slowly developed a body of work that incorporated intricate patterns with remnants of nature and fragments of old books. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, and is in collections of major universities, The Center for Craft, The Mint Museum and has recently been acquired by the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian. This event is part of the Ann Arbor Fiber Arts Expo (AAFAX).
