This is the only known field recording of the country blues singer, Harlan "Howlin' Woop" Woopington. Little is known about Woopington, except that he couldn't sing or play guitar. Legend has it that he attempted to sell his soul to the devil in exchange for musical prowess, but claimed he was "ripped-off, big time", and returned from the crossroads with even less talent than he started out with. As a result he thankfully gave up music, and devoted himself to fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a dirt-poor sharecropper. He lived the rest of his life in Obscurity, Texas, a small farming town near the Louisiana border. Big Woop Blues was famously covered by 70s heavy boogie band "Big Woop":    • BIG WOOP
