Hey kids…Mr. Wellness here and today we are going to talk about a big problem that is sweeping the nation...vaping! By now…we all know the dangers of smoking…but Vaping is relatively new, and in the short time it’s been around, it’s become very, very popular. What is vaping you ask? A "vape," or electronic cigarette, is a device that heats up a liquid to create a vapor you inhale. While vaping appears to be a healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes, there are many health risks involved. Let’s talk about nicotine for a second. Nicotine is the addictive chemical in cigarettes that has the ability to make you crave it. That means once you try it, it’s really hard to stop wanting it. Nicotine reaches the brain within seconds, causing pleasing effects to your noodle, but these effects are only temporary…. Until you get more nicotine. All tobacco products like cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco have nicotine in them – and so does Vaping. Vaping devices can vary in shape, size and color. And the vape juice inside is made up of flavorings and other chemicals. This liquid heats up to create a vapor, and within that vapor is…. You guessed it, Nicotine. Making vaping just as hard to quit if not harder than smoking. Did you know that one millimeter of vape juice is equal to five packs of cigarettes? That’s right! The vapor that you inhale can contain potentially harmful super small particles that can be inhaled deep into your lungs. Some of these particles can include cancer-causing chemicals or even heavy metals like nickel, tin and lead! Not to mention vaping can cause all kinds of bodily harm to you, like trouble breathing, chest pain, eyes, nose and throat irritation, headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tiredness or even weight loss! Find something fun and healthy to do with your friends like riding bikes, or playing a game – don’t put chemicals in your lungs “to be cool”. …it may look cool to blow billowing clouds of smoke out of your mouth like a dragon…but it’s just not worth it! Kids, the next time someone comes up to you and asks if you want to try vaping…just remember…BE SMART…DON’T START!
