VIDEO NOTE: At the 18-minute mark, a parent asks 1) Whether faculty have noticed shifts in students' attention spans as they apply to reading and 2) How best to help a student who is a reluctant reader engage with reading for enjoyment and not just for assignments. VIDEO DESCRIPTION: Much has been made in national media of waning student attention spans and the turn away from teaching whole books on the secondary level—and the consequences of this for students' education in college, and their lives as global citizens. St. Andrew's has remained committed to deep reading, working to cultivate reading resilience and a life-long love of reading through our teaching of whole books, both fiction and non-fiction. We've also designed our approach to summer work with this in mind, and are eager to talk about the opportunities inherent in building time to read into summer plans. Hear from Emily Pressman, Dean of Teaching and Learning, and Kate Cusick, English Department Chair, in this info session.
