Naepo is a planned city, developed in connection with the relocation of the Provincial Government. Originally based in Daejeon City, the provincial office was relocated after Daejeon became administratively separate from South Chungcheong Province in 1989. In 2006, the decision was made to build a new city at the current site, and by 2013, the provincial office and affiliated institutions had moved to Naepo New Town. However, the city's growth has fallen short of initial expectations. To revitalize development, Naepo was designated as an 'Chungnam Innovation City' in 2020, aiming to attract additional public institutions and stimulate the local economy. As of 2025, the population of Naepo New Town is approximately 45,000. Will Naepo New Town continue to grow and contribute to balanced regional development in Korea?
