In this video, we completely rebuild a failed shower base and transform it into a long-lasting, waterproof Schluter Kerdi shower system. The old shower pan was built with several major issues: No preslope under the vinyl liner, leading to standing water. Weep holes clogged with mortar, causing the entire pan to stay saturated. The pan was made of concrete instead of mortar, blocking proper drainage. The curb was built too low — missing an additional 2x4 — and covered incorrectly. The vinyl liner was cut too short and only covered the top of the curb. Cement board was screwed through the liner, creating leaks. Over time, water traveled through the curb seam, saturating and swelling the wood below. This caused mold growth, subfloor deterioration, and cracked grout on the bathroom floor. We removed the entire mud pan and the bottom row of marble wall tiles, repaired the subfloor, and installed a new Schluter Kerdi waterproof system: Kerdi shower tray and curb Kerdi board on walls 24-hour flood test (passed successfully) After the flood test, we installed new marble pebble mosaics on the shower floor and a 6-inch solid marble sill over the curb for a clean, durable finish. The glass door was reinstalled, and all transitions were sealed with high-grade silicone for lasting protection. 🕒 Project Duration: 9 days 💧 Result: A fully sealed, mold-free, maintenance-friendly shower built to last. 👉 Aquarius Tile LLC – Certified Tile Installer (CTEF) 📍 Serving Chicago Northwest Suburbs 🌐 aquariustile.com 📞 630-254-1503 #ShowerRebuild #SchluterKerdi #TileInstallation #BathroomRemodel #AquariusTile #CTEF #Waterproofing #TileContractor #ChicagoTileInstaller
