Join us for our next folk evening on Tuesday 30th November at 8pm, where we will be featuring talented newcomer Lilian Grace. Another journey into the folk music passions, pastimes, performances and studies from the folk music circuit. Wonderfully diverse music and fascinating lives! Who is she? This week we showcase Lilian Grace, a young singer who specialises in traditional folk songs, sung mostly unaccompanied but sometimes with a single instrument, such as accordion, concertina or violin, seasoning the sound. An up-and-coming performer who is making a name for herself along the national folk circuit. What does she do? Lilian’s voice and singing style often prompt terms such as "haunting" and "rich," alongside such praise as “Lilian performs with a humble elegance that entices the listener into the song and captivates her audience" (Bryony Griffith) and "One of the most exquisitely soulful voices I have heard in a long time. Lilian is a poetic and enigmatic storyteller; spellbinding and otherworldly- do not miss her!" (Rachael Sutcliffe – The Heathen Kings). She is passionate about carrying the torch of traditional folk music, ensuring the female voice endures and sustains from her generation to the next. What’s her story? An alumnus of Leeds College of Music, where she studied folk music, Lilian used this opportunity to cut her teeth on the local folk scene, gravitating towards writing and composing her own songs. This culminated in her performance of Taller – an original song – at Leeds Central Library, as part of the Both Sides Now Music Residency; a chance for young female/non-binary musicians to have a platform to showcase their abilities. Lilian has also released her debut EP, Death and the Lady, available on Wildboar Records.
