Oaster Facility Solutions http://bradoaster.com 719 439 3019 Hi, I’m Brad Oaster, and today I want to talk a little bit about the, creative entrepreneurial spirit that we have here at Oaster Development, whether it’s how we go about finding our property or the design of our buildings or even assisting the churches we work with in the way that they reach their community and do their ministry. back in the early 90s, I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I started working with churches there in 1980. In 1986, my wife and I found a lot. We were able to build a home in the hills above Silicon Valley in a town called Los Gatos. my son went to a school called Lexington Elementary School, and I went down to, to pick up Bryan one day, and he was sitting with his friend, Jesse Clark, and Jesse was working on this-this lunch-box-type apparatus. I had no idea what it was. but he was very excited to show it to my son Bryan, and-and, and show it to me. What I didn’t realize at the time is it was a prototype for the very first laptop computer. And I couldn’t figure out, you know, “How did Jesse Clark get this?” Well, Jesse taught Bryan how to do basic programming. And the next thing I knew, Jesse’s dad is coming over to our house with one of these computers for my son, Bryan. And I’m looking at this guy, going, “I know who this guy is. He’s not, his-his last name’s not Clark.” It was Steve Wozniak, the inventor of the Apple computer. And, Jesse went by Jesse Clark so that nobody would kidnap him. If your name’s Wozniak in the Bay Area, you’re-you’re fairly high-profile. So that’s how I originally met Steve. we hit it off just great. our kids were best of friends. Steve was one of the most, is still one of the most generous, people I’ve ever met. He would, he would sit down and talk to me and answer questions for me and go into just amazing detail. I would ask something like, “How’d you do this in Apple?” or, “If-if this were-were your company, Steve, if-if you were designing churches, how would you approach this?” And the things that he taught me are, are too long to-to go over in this one blog. In fact, we’re gonna do a series coming up on-on what I learned from Woz and how that relates to church development. I hope you’ll be able to join us on that blog. in the meantime, I’m Brad Oaster. Check out our website, and call me at 719-439-3019 if I can help you with your church development program.
