I chose these ‘Channapatna toys’ for my documentary shoot. We have all been through the first stage of our childhood time where half of our childhood days are spent playing with toys or some other. But Channapatna toys is something unique which led me to do more research on it. It has a long history back to the time of Tipu Sultan. Channapatna toys are extinct and slowly the crafting of Channapatna toys making is disappearing. Through this video, I want to promote and do more study because Channapatna toy crafting is at a decreasing rate. Channapatna toy making has evolved and it’s been more than 200 years since the time of Tipu Sultan who is the ruler of Mysore. Being in Mysore, Karnataka I felt crafting and traditional work of Channapatna toys making is vanishing. I think there are still many people around Karnataka and near Channapatna who don’t know anything about it. Through this video, I hope you all will get some ideas about crafting works and their stories. One of the major reasons behind decreasing rate of crafting work for Channapatna toys making is the high demand for Chinese plastic toys and their cheap price.
