A Weekend in Marseille in the south of France on The Mediterranean coast. The ancient city, founded by the Phoenicians is a port city that faces North Africa and has been a cosmopolitan, trading city since the dawn of time. Marseille is France's oldest city and is the second biggest, next to Paris and is an 'anytime' city as the sun always seems to be shining and the sea is always warm enough for a swim - although at times you need to be a little brave to take a dip. If you are looking for good food and good times, or just enjoy strolling in the sun and taking in the sights - DON'T go on the usual tourist trails - there are lots of them. The restaurants and bars that cater for tourists are generally not great and usually expensive - get off of the beaten track and discover - get a map and then veer off of the usual tourist routes - you will undoubtedly be pleasantly surprised. Come with us in this first part of a weekend in Marseille - there will be more as we didn't get to see everything this time - it's a great city with some really friendly, open and interesting characters.
