The Weatherford SurgeMaster® II multi-opening diverter tool reduces formation surge pressure and increases running speeds during casing or liner installation. It operates by directing mud into the annulus above any restrictions. As the drillpipe is run into the wellbore, the tool’s ports open automatically, and open and close as needed. Because the bypass ports are normally closed, circulation can be established at any time without deactivating or permanently closing the tool. Conventional surge-reduction solutions typically include single-action tools run only in the open position in order to displace fluid and thereby increase liner- and casing-running speeds.
