That's in part due to concern over job security - should they have to take a maternity leave later - and partly attributed to a growing number of women who prioritize career over starting a family. This latest trend in Korea which resonates all across the globe - our Lee Unshin reports. Getting married is apparently is not the top priority of most Korean women in their 20s. Data released by Statistics Korea on Tuesday shows the average age of Korean women getting married for the first time last year was 30. One of the factors leading them to marry later could be that a growing number of them feel their career is more important. The statistics agency found that 42-percent of women say they put career before family, while only 15-percent said they think getting married takes priority. Taking time off from work to raise a child is daunting prospect, male or female,... not least because around a quarter of people who take paternity or maternity leave find they're not able to return successfully to their old job. And although a growing number of men have been choosing to take time off work to raise kids... it's still mainly women who face the most pressure to balance the time spent taking care of a home with the demands of professional life. A decade ago, the number of fathers who took paternity leave stood at just 208. 10 years later, the number has jumped more than 20 fold, to more than 48-hundred. Still, that's a far cry from the more than 80-thousand women who took a career break last year to take care of their children. Experts say that those numbers reflect the wide social perception that he primary responsibility for raising children lies with women... and that pressure leads them to put off marriage.
