Bill 2,734/2021, recently approved by the Senate Public Security Committee, authorizes the carrying of firearms for lawyers throughout the national territory, for self-defense purposes. The proposal is moving forward quickly, supported by arguments such as the “lack of hierarchy” between lawyers and members of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Judiciary, who already have this right. But what about security guards? Professionals who put their lives at risk every day, who face armed crime without real guarantees of legal and institutional protection? There is not a single vigilante parliamentarian in the National Congress. None. Zero. On the other hand, there are 104 lawyer parliamentarians — that's right, 104 seats occupied by those who have the prerogative of speech, of norms, of the law... and now, of carrying a firearm. Meanwhile, private security: • Is left out of the central debates. • Is treated as secondary in the committees. • Depends on the goodwill of others to see its demands met. The same week that the Senate approves the right to carry weapons for lawyers, the security guards category is still debating the draft of the new decree, which: • Removes the provision for special imprisonment from Law 7,102/83. • Eliminates the material assistance provided for in Ordinance 18,045. • And limits legal assistance to only the provision of a fine to the company between R$5,000 and R$10,000 — which does not even cover the filing of the criminal lawsuit for an unjustly accused security guard! There is a lack of representation. There is a lack of voice. There is a lack of a security guard in Congress. This is the reality: without a bench, there is no achievement.
