Growing Japanese Banana plant (Musa Basjoo) in the UK.

Here I show aJapanese Banana plant. This specimen is growing I a polytunnel which offers some protection from Frost. Frost will kill the upper parts of the plant but the plant produces suckers which will grow back following a frost. Existing plants will sometimes also regrow up to a point. These can add a touch of the exotic to a garden. These plants are used to make textiles in Japan. This particular specimen is growing in a pot. It's unlikely to fruit here in the UK but we will never say never. These self propogate and can be separated and grown on in another location or given away. These can be planted out in the garden where they should regrow following frosts. A good way to protect them from frost is to cut the top off them place a dustbin full of straw over the top or wrap it in bubblewrap. I hope people find the video useful.
