Dry, Brittle, Splitting, Peeling Nails? Solution: DIY Warm Jojoba Treatment!

Do this once a week and watch your nails transform! I used 50 ml (1.5 oz) of a mixture of jojoba, avocado, grape seed oil, and sunflower oil. *not sponsored I now recommend using only jojoba for the soak as jojoba is very heat stable Use other oils as your daily oil to apply on your nails and skin around the nails after each hand wash. I do not recommend olive oil for the soak: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22995... Olive oil can disrupt the skin's natural barrier, especially when used in isolation. While it contains beneficial components like antioxidants and can have anti-inflammatory properties, olive oil's high oleic acid content can weaken the skin's stratum corneum, potentially leading to increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and irritation. Oleic Acid's Impact: Olive oil is rich in oleic acid, which, while moisturizing, can disrupt the skin's natural lipid barrier, especially in individuals with sensitive skin or conditions like eczema. Weakened Skin Barrier: Studies have shown that olive oil can reduce the integrity of the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin, potentially leading to increased TEWL and making the skin more vulnerable to irritants. Potential for Irritation: Some individuals may experience irritation, dryness, or even allergic reactions when using olive oil, particularly if they have pre-existing skin conditions or sensitivities. Alternatives for Sensitive Skin: For those with sensitive skin or concerns about barrier disruption, alternatives like jojoba oil, squalane, or grapeseed oil may be more suitable due to their different fatty acid profiles. Balanced Use: While olive oil can be beneficial in some formulations and contexts, it's crucial to be aware of its potential drawbacks and use it mindfully, especially on delicate or compromised skin. Can you reuse jojoba oil? Please use your common sense. Pure jojoba is very heat stable and it does not go "bad" when heated. Other oils might not be as stable when heated. If the oil smells off- throw it out. It doesn't have the benefits you are looking for. How long to soak for? I usually do 5 min per hand, or until the oil cools off Jojoba https://amzn.to/3y9qLcW Avocado oil https://amzn.to/3MKG93F Sweet almond oil https://amzn.to/3KGfTGn Grapeseed oil https://amzn.to/3s9ut2y The Ordinary Squalene https://amzn.to/3LHNWza Proportions for nail and skin oil: I like using jojoba as main oil and then I add approx. 25% of other oil/s. I like to add oils rich in linoleic acid which are great for repairing skin barrier (oils like sunflower oil, safflower oil or grapeseed oil). These oils are also very light and won't feel greasy on the skin. Avocado oil and sweet almond oil are a bit heavier but they are great for dry skin or in the winter. disclaimer: some product links are affiliate links which means if you buy something we'll receive a small commission (at no extra cost to you).
