Movement 01 Moderato "Chorus" by Johann Sebastian Bach (Jean Sébastien BACH) (1685 - 1750). Choral from Bach's Cantate (Cantata - Kantata - Kantate - Cantique - canto - canticle - カンタータ - 칸타타 - 康塔塔 - 颂歌 - кантата) BWV 147 "Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring" - "Jesus bleibet meine Freude" - "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben". The whole Cantate have two part with various movements, ten (X) to be precise (opening chorus, four arias (soprano, alto, tenor, and basso) and a closing chorale). Movements 1 to 6 are to be performed before the sermon, the others after the sermon : */ Part 1 : 1 - Chorus: "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben" (Heart and mouth and deed and life). 2- Recitative : "Gebenedeiter Mund!" 3- Aria : "Schäme dich, o Seele, nicht". 4- Recitative : "Verstockung kann Gewaltige verblenden". 5- Aria : "Bereite dir, Jesu, noch itzo die Bahn". 6- Chorale: "Wohl mir, daß ich Jesum habe". */ Part 2 : 1 (7) - Aria : "Hilf, Jesu, hilf, daß ich auch dich bekenne". 2 (8) - Recitative : "Der höchsten Allmacht Wunderhand". 3 (9) - Aria : "Ich will von Jesu Wundern singen". 4 (10) - Chorale: "Jesus bleibet meine Freude" The Lyrics in German for a sing a long : Jesus bleibet meine Freude, Meines Herzens Trost und Saft, Jesus wehret allem Leide, Er ist meines Lebens Kraft, Meiner Augen Lust und Sonne, Meiner Seele Schatz und Wonne; Darum lass ich Jesum nicht Aus dem Herzen und Gesicht. Their English translation : Jesus will always be my joy, My heart's comfort and essence, Jesus is there through all suffering, He is my life's strength, The desire and sunshine of my eyes, My soul's treasure and bliss; Therefore I will never let Jesus go, Neither from my heart nor from my face. This Bach’s famous Cantata was first was performed in Leipzig, on July 2nd, 1723 though it was composed and arranged for the most part of it in 1716 as a Cantate for a church in Weimar. The original instrumentation is : Trumpet, two oboes, bassoon, two violins, viola, basso continuo.
