I kick things off by hopping on a rented scooter and heading out in search of some egg hoppers for breakfast. After coming up short, I stop at a small restaurant on Dikwella Beach and grab a local meal of string hoppers, dahl, and coconut sambal. With some food in me, I continue along the coast to Turtle Beach, hoping to spot some sea turtles in the water. I rent snorkeling gear for 500 rupees and head into the ocean, but the visibility isn’t great and I don’t have much luck finding any turtles. I spend a bit more time exploring the beach before getting back on the scooter and riding over to Hiriketiya, one of my favourite spots in Sri Lanka. There, I take a walk along the beach, relax at a laid-back beach bar, and rent a surfboard to catch some waves.
