Female genital anatomy is not discussed often enough, but is something that I discuss almost every day! The external female genital structures are the clitoral hood and glans, the labia majora and minora, the vulvar vestibule and the urethral opening. The clitoral-urethral complex is embryologically the same as the male penis (the biggest difference is that the female urethra runs underneath the clitoral-urethral complex instead of through it.... ok, and there's usually a size difference too!) 😆 The clitoris is a large structure measuring 9-10cm in length and is comprised of the clitoral glans (the tip), the clitoral hood, the clitoral body, the clitoral crura and the clitoral (or vestibular) bulbs. The vagina is a stretchy fibromuscular tube that is generally narrower at the opening, but then is quite spacious in the mid-to-upper vagina. This is why most women don't feel tampons or other vaginally-placed devices (diaphragms, menstrual cups, pessaries, hormonal rings, etc). As always, getting familiar with your own body is encouraged! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can find more from Dr. Vaccaro on instagram / / drchristinevaccaro Hear from our other docs at / drkatherineklos / / drrachelrubin / / ashleygwinter Subscribe to our channel where we dive into your questions about sexual medicine for all genders.
