Today in this auspicious day of celebrating our 74th year of independence it will be my honour to say a few words about our UNSUNG HEROES OF INDIAN INDEPENDENCE HISTORY. Bhagat Singh, Gandhiji, Netaji and Nehru are the names that are synonymous with our struggle for freedom from the British. We all owe our freedom to them. But apart from these hallowed names, there were thousands of those who too sacrificed their lives on the path of freedom. But unlike these big names, history didn’t do justice with them. Many of them have been forsaken by history and most of us don’t even know about them. This is an attempt to give those brave souls a tribute because their contribution to our freedom is by no means lesser than those who got their due. Here I would like to discuss some of such freedom fighters whom history might have forsaken, but we shouldn’t !!. Kartar Singh Sarabhai, we all love Bhagat Singh right? but only a handful of people know Kartar Singh Sarabhai, Bhagat Singh who considered Kartar Singh Sarabhai as a guru. Kartar Singh Sarabhai was the main architect of the Ghadar revolution which aimed to incite a mutiny in the British Indian Army, during the thick of world war first. Sarabhai sought to take advantage of the war to uproot the British from India. Alluri Sita Rama Raju He was born in a prosperous Kshatriya family in Andhra Pradesh in 1887. Raju left everything for the freedom struggle in 1922 to 24, He led a failed yet important ” Rampa “ rebellion with the help of tribals. Raju was referred to as “Maanyam Veerudo “ ( Hero of the jungle ). PINGALY VENKKAYYA He was the man who designed the Indian national flag and was also an authority in geology, agriculture and was an educationist who set up an educational institution in Machilipatnam. He, however, died in poverty in 1963 and was largely forgotten by society. Mangal Pandey, Jhansi Rani, Thanthia Thopi, Aruna Asaf Ali, Begam Hasrat Mahal are some of the unsung heroes. Our independence was hard-fought. The British ruled over our lands for a long time. But then, there are heroes, There are always heroes. The ones who stand up and fight. Some get the spotlight while some stay in the dark and contribute just as much as the others. Those who fought equally hard but never got any share of the limelight, because they simply never cared. Their only focus was on seeing an independent India. But as citizens of this country, this is the right time to remember them and stand up together to give a proud salute to the brave heroes Jai hind!!
