http://www.le.ac.uk/ http://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/crim... Hate crime, and the forms of violence, harassment, abuse and bullying associated with it, is now widely recognised as a serious issue. However, while we may all be more aware of hate crime, there remains much about the experiences of victims, and the harms they endure, that is still not fully understood. This research aims to fill that gap by offering victims the chance to tell us about what they have been through. The Leicester Hate Crime Project is a major two-year study, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, that examines the experiences of those who are victimised because of their identity, vulnerability or perceived 'difference' in the eyes of the perpetrator. Rather than using narrow definitions of hate crime that restrict the number of groups that can be considered as hate crime victims, the project will be using the broader idea of hate crime as being something that anyone can suffer if they are targeted because of who they are. This allows us to work with anyone who feels that they have been victimised in this way, including those groups who are often left out of the wider hate crime debate.
