Massive Homeless Encampment Blaze: Historic South Central

At approximately 2318 hours, the LAFD responded near the intersection of 35th St. x S Broadway St. for a reported rubbish fire. Engine 14 alone arrived on scene and reported a large homeless encampment directly exposing a one story, triangle shaped commercial, requesting the incident be balanced out. Engine 14 immediately secured a water supply and stretched multiple lines. Task Force 15 arrived on scene and confirmed E14’s size up. Engine 14 continued fire attack on the encampment and assumed Division Charlie, backed up by Engine 15. Truck 15 went to the room and assumed Broadway IC, with Task Force 10 taking Division Alpha, handling forcible entry and to check for extension. Battalion 13 later arrived on scene to assume command. Engine 14 and the first Task Force were able to knock down the encampment before extension into the commercial. Squad 21 assisted as well, with no injuries reported.
