Kamal Nuru sits down with Aaron Henry, the creator of the TSU RAG, a new creative twist on the traditional Du Rag. Henry was born in the U.S.V.I and moved to Harlem, NY in September of 1988. Aaron attributes his creative thinking to his upbringing and having grown up on the Island of St. Croix. His hobbies included making slingshots, kites from materials (found around the house) and as dangerous as it may sound, homemade fireworks. At the young age of 8, Aaron assembled his first bike from scratch. "I knew nothing of Toys R Us, I used whatever I had at my disposal to entertain myself." In December 2010 Aaron came across a Facebook Fan Page that served as a forum for guys with the hairstyle known as 360 Waves. On this fan page some guys shared their techniques while others were seeking guidance on achieving 360 Waves. This topic was second nature to Aaron who has been sporting the hairstyle since Jr. High School. A question that was frequently asked on the Fan Page was how to prevent deep line impressions and headaches caused by the durag. Having experienced this same issue and desiring a solution as well, got the creative juices flowing in Aaron. On New Year's Eve 2010, using a bonnet (belonging to his wife), a durag, a needle, thread and Velcro, Aaron came up with the first prototype to his invention the "TsuRag." The TsuRag is a stringless durag that was designed around a plan to counter every issue with the traditional durag. The TsuRag uses a wide strap VS the string that is infamous for causing headaches, line impressions and dark marks in the forehead. Aaron didn't stop there; Velcro was added to the tail, this added feature allows the tail to flip up and wrap around the head providing extra hold support. The tail can also be used to wrap braids, dreadlocks and pretty much any other hairstyle you can think of. In addition to being more practical, the TsuRag is much more fashionable.
