This webcam honours the memory of Mr. Tilley (known as The Catalogue Man), who spent countless hours in his rocking chair gazing at this very view with binoculars in hand. From here, he watched the Marine Atlantic ferry arriving and departing, recorded the storms rolling in, and carefully noted wind speeds and weather in his journal. In tribute to Mr. Tilley’s life and love for this harbour, we’re sharing it with the world. The building was the original Customs House for Port aux Basques, created to coincide with the completion of the Reid Railway in 1898. Its first occupants were the Pike family, followed by the Anderson family, and finally the Tilley family — with this stream dedicated to Mr. Tilley. We are now in the process of restoring the house to its original character and honouring its long history.
