In this episode of the Weiler Matador Lathe series, I start rebuilding one of the most important parts of the machine’s transmission: the Norton Box feed shaft. The original shaft was too worn, out of tolerance, and simply not reliable anymore — so I decided to make a brand‑new one from 115CrV3 steel. This turned into a real workshop journey: machining all diameters in a single setup facing and centering both ends chasing runout issues re‑indexing the tailstock (more than once…) and finally getting a clean, accurate fit on the bearing Not everything went smoothly, but that’s exactly where the learning happens.
