Dakshinkali Temple | दक्षिणकाली मन्दिर Dakshinkali Temple, located about 22 km from Kathmandu in Pharping, is a prominent Hindu shrine dedicated to Goddess Kali, known as "The Black One." Situated at the confluence of the Poornawati and Udharwati rivers, the temple houses a black idol of Kali, adorned with gold and silver. The temple is a key pilgrimage site, especially during religious events like the Dashain festival, where animal sacrifices such as goats, buffaloes, and cocks are made to honor the goddess. The temple is also significant for its Newar community, who celebrate various local festivals like Harishankar Jatra and Bajrayogini Jatra. The temple’s religious practices include regular pujas with offerings such as fruits, flowers, rice, and meat, as well as the famous animal sacrifices. The priests at the temple are divided into three categories: the Karmacharya family, who serve as the main priests, the Maharjan family, responsible for security, and the Pode, who maintain cleanliness. The main priest, a Karmacharya, passes the position down through generations. The temple plays an essential role in the local economy, with festivals bringing in visitors who sell food, crafts, and goods during the jatras. Dakshinkali Temple holds a deep spiritual significance, believed to protect devotees from misfortune and death. The goddess Kali is depicted with her right foot on Shiva's chest, symbolizing her benevolent, protective nature. The temple’s name, “Dakshinakali,” refers to the goddess’s connection to the southern direction (Dakshina), symbolizing her power over death. With its rich cultural practices, historical significance, and stunning location, Dakshinkali Temple continues to be a central figure in the religious and cultural life of Nepal. -------------------------------------------------- Video Timecodes: 0:00 - Location 1:38 - Dakshinkali Temple 5:43 - Who is Kali? 6:34 - Janabarko Bali 7:25 - Selfie Garden 8:30 - Dakshinkali Deviko Aamako Mandir 9:40 - Scenic View 9:58 - Picnic Spot 10:30 - Closing Remarks Thank you so much for watching this video.
