Investing in Resilience in South Sudan: The Aweil Rice Scheme | FAO’s Hand-in-Hand Initiative

South Sudan has fertile land and a young population eager to work, yet much of its agricultural potential remains unrealized. Years of conflict, limited infrastructure, and scarce financing have constrained progress and kept markets fragmented. With FAO’s support, the government is advancing the Hand-in-Hand Initiative to identify and invest in high-opportunity areas such as the Aweil Rice Scheme, eliminating key bottlenecks to scale up production, strengthen value chains, and drive inclusive growth. To date, the country has secured over 55 million dollars in investments to revitalise its agrifood sector and expand opportunities for farmers.
