Today's installment brings me to this house of worship, where I exercised my freedom to record along the public sidewalk . Almost immediately, security took notice of my presence. A short time later, a vehicle stopped at the entrance , and the driver got out & walked towards my direction. I would guess he was one of the priests based on the robe & cross he was wearing. He asked if I needed help , then went into asking if I would respect peoples rights to privacy on church property. I asked him if I was able to decline his request or was expecting automatic compliance. I asked him if he would respect my rights in public, where I was standing. He got back in his vehicle & proceeded onto church property. As I continued my recording of the cars exiting the property after the earlier Sunday service, I was now approached by another individual, along with two security personnel, getting in close proximity to my personal space. I warned them to keep a distance as I continued recording. The individual in the lighter color shirt got on his phone & called police. As he was talking with the dispatcher, he told them I was recording license plates, which I was doing, but then he lied & said I was at their door. On top of that, he claimed I was violating HIPAA... What? Eventually, two officers arrived on the scene to speak with the calling party. After a good amount of time chatting with them, the two officers came to where I was standing & relayed a message from the calling party that I wasn't allowed back on the property. I made clear to them that I was never on the church property to begin with & urged the cops to go look at the camera footage . They said that wasn't necessary. They then stared in with directives to not block cars from exiting the driveway. I questioned their knowledge that pedestrians have the right of way to walk on the sidewalk & they didn't seem to have an answer, then walked back to the patrol vehicle , ignoring my request for an incident #. I had some choice words for them at that point since they lost any perceived respect they might have had. I invite you to comment below with your thoughts on this one & I thank you for taking time out of your day to watch!
