American University of Sharjah (AUS) held its annual Global Day Thursday and Friday, March 19-20, 2015. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of American University of Sharjah, the AUS Global Day 2015, one of the most anticipated events at AUS, was opened by Sheikh Salem Bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi, Director of the Office of the Ruler of Sharjah. The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Björn Kjerfve, AUS Chancellor, and Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, AUS Dean of Students Affairs. Each year Global Day showcases the cultural heritage of the many nationalities represented at AUS by turning the university campus into a festival of culture. Visitors get a taste of the truly multicultural nature of the AUS campus. Themed “Peace throughout the World,” the AUS Global Day 2015 represents 33 countries showcasing some of the different cultures represented among the AUS student body, with student clubs presenting traditional items, music and cuisine. Pavilions set up across the AUS Main Plaza depict the traditions of countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Armenia, Pakistan, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Palestine, Libya, India, Sudan and Egypt, to name a few. This year, the Emirati pavilion is an eye-catcher with a replica of Burj Khalifa as its central focus. In addition to ethnic stalls and pavilions depicting cultural heritage, visitors were also able to sample a wide variety of traditional food in the outdoor food court. Colorful indoor cultural performances were also held in the AUS Main Auditorium giving students a chance to showcase their talent. The first AUS Global Day was held in 1998 with eight student organizations and 400 students. Since then, the event has grown manifold with this year’s AUS Global Day witnessing the participation of a lively and dynamic student body that comprises over 6,000 students from over 90 nationalities. 00:00:06 - 00:01:06 - National Anthem 00:01:15 - 00:03:35 - Opening Address 00:03:40 - 00:09:05 - Traditional Costume Show 00:09:15 - 00:21:55 - Student Council Performance 00:21:57 - 00:35:40 - Emirati Cultural Club 00:35:50 - 00:46:25 - Iranian Cultural Club 00:46:35 - 00:56:55 - Bangladeshi Cultural Club 00:57:00 - 01:03:55 - Japanese Cultural Club 01:04:05 - 01:26:30 - Pakistani Cultural Club 01:26:35 - 01:33:15 - Armenian Cultural Club 01:33:25 - 01:44:55 - Nigerian Cultural Club 01:45:15 - 01:51:15 - Brazilian Cultural Club 01:51:25 - 02:12:25 - Indian Cultural Club 02:12:45 - 02:14:40 - Conclusion -For more information about American University of Sharjah, please visit: https://www.aus.edu -To know more about the latest events and news at AUS, follow us on: Facebook: https://www.aus.edu/facebook Twitter: https://www.aus.edu/twitter Instagram: https://www.aus.edu/instagram LinkedIn: https://www.aus.edu/linkedin
