A quick video of why you shouldn't use old clay that's been allowed to dry out to throw pots. As you'll see the clay wasn't wedged or kneeded well as it had been lying around for a while and become hard in some places and softer in others. This results in you not being able to pull the walls of the pot up evenly or collar in evenly as the clay will just tend to go all over the place. So my top tip is never use old clay that's been hanging around and allowed to dry,always use freshly kneeded,wedged or pugged clay and keep covered with polythene.
