In a press briefing in Malacañang, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian announced that the financial aid will be sourced from the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. The initial rollout will begin on Tuesday for tricycle drivers in Metro Manila, with local government units (LGUs) tasked to submit their lists of beneficiaries. The program will eventually cover other transport workers nationwide, including drivers and operators of jeepneys, buses, and transport network vehicle services (TNVS). Officials also discussed other measures to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices, such as the Bagong Pilipinas Rice Subsidy program for vulnerable families, the ongoing review of fare hike petitions by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and discussions with toll operators for potential discounts.
