COVINGTON, Ky. (Joe Webb) -- Covington police said the murder Jan. 22, on Hands Pike was the result of a marijuana deal that ended in gunfire. "In the world of illicit narcotics and drugs a lot of people are of the opinion that marijuana doesn t kill anybody," Covington Police Chief Spike Jones told Local 12 Thursday afternoon, Jan. 29. "And in this instance we ve seen something different through greed." Ronald Ray Hudson was shot and killed at his home at 1371 Hands Pike in South Covington. David Abney was wounded and police said he will likely suffer permanent injuries. Police have charged Delaun Hayes and Simeon McKinnie with murder and assault. Hayes surrendered to police two days after the shooting. McKinnie is still on the loose. "We do consider him armed and dangerous," said Jones. "There's no need for any more bloodshed or gunfire." According to McKinnie's arrest warrant, Abney and another man, Matthew Bowling, brought Hayes and McKinnie to Hudson's house to buy marijuana. When Hudson produced a half-pound of marijuana, guns were drawn and several shots were fired. Police recovered multiple 9mm shell casings at the scene from two different weapons. Police learned that the suspects were in a local rap group that posts videos on YouTube. Police found one of their videos and compared it to surveillance tape from a gas station they stopped at on the way to Hudson's home. That helped them get a positive identification of McKinnie and Hayes. Follow Joe Webb on Twitter @joewebbwkrc, and LIKE him on Facebook.
