Opening Ceremony of the WorldSkills Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Manila 2025 Marriott Grand Ballroom, Newport Boulevard, Pasay City August 25, 2025 Calling on his countrymen to extend the hospitality and warmth that Filipinos are known for, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. welcomed the delegates and participants to the 14th WorldSkills Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Competition – dubbed WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 – when he graced the opening ceremony on August 25, 2025. “Almost thirty years on, this competition has grown, and today we witness significant milestones. With two hundred fifty-nine contestants competing in thirty-two skill areas across six major sectors, this is the largest WorldSkills ASEAN Competition to date. We are also honored to welcome Timor-Leste, as they take part — for the very first time — in the competition. Their participation reminds us that inclusivity makes ASEAN stronger and brings our nations closer together,” President Marcos Jr. said in his keynote message. He emphasized the importance of holding such an event, especially in honing and nurturing the skills, knowledge, talents and creativity of ASEAN youth, so they can succeed and bring pride not only to their countries but also in shaping their own futures. “As a gateway for learning, collaboration, and cultural exchange, the WorldSkills ASEAN serves as the stage where young people push their limits, competing not only for medals but for the pride of their nations. For our participants, the rewards go far beyond gold, silver, or bronze. Here, you show that you can thrive under pressure — where challenges spark creativity [and] build confidence. These are the qualities that will serve you long after this competition will end. Your medals may shine today but it is your skills that will shape your future, serve your country, and help build a more united ASEAN community,” the President adds. The ASEAN’s top youth competitors will showcase their talents and competencies in the following 32 skill areas under six (6) sectors: Manufacturing and Engineering Technology (Autonomous Mobile Robotics, CNC Maintenance, CoBot Systems Integration, Electronics, Industrial Automation, Industrial Control, Industry 4.0, Mechanical Engineering CAD, Mechatronics, and Welding); Information and Communication Technology (Cyber Security, Information Network Cabling, Internet-Of-Things, IT Network Systems Administration, IT Software Solutions for Business, and Web Technologies); Construction and Building Technology (Cabinetmaking, Carpentry, Electrical Installations, Plumbing and Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Wall and Floor Tiling); Social and Personal Service (Bakery, Beauty Therapy, Cooking, Hairdressing, Hotel Reception, and Restaurant Service); Creative Arts and Fashion (3D Digital Game Art, Fashion Technology, and Graphic Design Technology); Transportation and Logistics (Automobile Technology). WorldSkills ASEAN brings the objectives of the WorldSkills movement to Southeast Asia. It aims to elevate skill standards in the Region to an international level and to motivate the youth to develop their skills and knowledge. The ASEAN Member States take turns hosting the biennial competition.
