Justus Ikemer - Chamas for Change 2021

The Chamas for Change model (Chamas) revolves around community-led, peer support and microfinance groups that engage pregnant women and mothers in biweekly meetings led by a community health worker (CHW). The groups go through a three-year curriculum focused on antenatal care, infant care, financial skills, family planning, and positive parenting. By participating, women are empowered to generate income through businesses, protect their incomes and improve their access to health care with health insurance, ensure their children complete school, and advocate for quality health care. As of August 2021, our 44,270 members, including 7,000 women who participate in Chamas, have circulated more than $400,000 in loans and generated $1.9 million in savings.
