On this day, off the beaten path, I came across a small band of wild horses. Two younger stallions were clearly aware of one another, exchanging posture and presence as they moved along the trail. The mare positioned herself calmly between the stallions and her young colt, maintaining space and keeping her focus on her foal. She appeared unimpressed by the interaction, while the colt stayed alert and quick to respond, moving himself out of the way when needed. A third, older stallion chose not to engage and continued down the path with the mare and foal, leaving the two younger stallions to sort out their awareness of one another. Their bodies tell stories of past seasons — reminders that these interactions are part of learning, hierarchy, and experience in the wild. 📍 Filmed in: Alberta, Canada — foothills / Rocky Mountain region This footage was filmed using a long, powerful zoom lens. I remained at a respectful distance, allowing natural behavior to unfold without interference. Thank you for watching and taking a moment to slow down in wild horse country. 📸 Why I Film I film independently, on my own time, guided by patience and deep respect for wildlife.
