How do I do research at home? How do I learn about a new topic? I'm busy, but I want to continue learn. Are there short nonfiction books? Oxford Very Short Introductions (VSI) are a great series of nonfiction books that cover every topic from Algebra to Zoology. There is hardly a topic that does not have it's own title in the series, and most topics are covered in multiple titles. Oxford's Very Short Introductions cover a topic in about 100 pages, each book a handy, pocket-sized volume to take on a trip or keep in your bag. You can often find these titles at your local library. A handful of these books on a related topic would give you significant information for home research and reference and only require limited shelf space. Alternatively, you could build your own home encyclopedia by getting a handful of titles on general topics and refer to them when you need to, like an encyclopedia series. A handful of these titles on a given topic will provide you with a solid knowledge foundation or provide you with a well-balanced, encyclopedic, multi-disciplinary assortment on various topics. All of the titles in this series are written by scholars in their respective fields. The books included in this talk are: The Ice Age Confucianism Earth System Science The Reagan Revolution Hieroglyphs History of Mathematics Visit your library for a look. Take one of these little books on a trip! Thanks for watching!
