(28 May 2014) German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday expressed concern about the the fate of the four OSCE monitors, who have been abducted by pro-Russian separatists in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine. Merkel vowed to do everything possible to get them released. Merkel made the comment at a joint news conference in Berlin following a meeting with the acting Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk as well as the Prime Ministers of Moldova and Georgia. She said she wanted for the three countries "to be able to decide freely with their citizens in which direction they want to go." Yatsenyuk reiterated his aim for Ukraine "to become a European country." He also stressed that with the newly elected President and the cabinet changes will begin to happen. "We will do everything that the Ukrainian people expect us to do. And the Ukrainian people expect changes from us."
