In this video, we'll be showing you why Oaxaca, Mexico should be on your bucket list for mountain biking But why should you choose Oaxaca over other destinations? First off, it's not as crowded and mainstream as other popular biking spots like Bentonville, Whistler, and Crested Butte. Oaxaca City sits inland at an elevation of 5,100ft with the Sierra Norte mountains to the northeast, making it a prime location for the TranSierra Norte enduro race. Oaxaca is also becoming a popular mountain bike trail destination for North American riders, with guided tours and races gaining more traction. In fact, tourism in Oaxaca increased by 24% in 2019 over 2018, and 51% over 2016. And, Oaxaca City was voted the best city in the world to visit by Travel & Leisure readers. When it comes to the trails themselves, Oaxaca offers a unique and adventurous experience for riders. There are trails closer to the city, but much of the riding happens at the Santa Catarina Ixtepeji Community Ecotourism Park. Guided tours with my amigo @danielcr_mtb (instagram) is highly recommended, as the guides know Oaxaca and its singletrack inside and out. The trails themselves offer a mix of green, blue, and black options, with steep sections and looser, rockier terrain in some areas. However, many of the blue trails are flowy and less intimidating. Popular trails include Tierra Negra, Dragoncito, and Los Raices, with Cabeza de Vaca being a fun green trail extension. Overall, while Oaxaca may not be the easiest destination to get to, it offers a unique and thrilling mountain biking experience that's worth the effort. #mtb #mexico #oaxaca
