It was also the year San Berillo was razed to the ground and its 30.000 inhabitants rehoused in a new outlying suburban quarter. There is only one small piece of San Berillo left: a black hole at the centre of the city, crossroads of the stories that have passed through it, a mix of myth, legend, popular culture and brothels; and where since 1958 thousands of prostitutes have poured in, giving rise to one of the most important red-light districts of the entire Mediterranean. ...
