Maharashtra Lockdown Extended till 15th May 2021

The Bombay High Court on 29th April was hearing a PIL seeking proper management of medicines, oxygen and beds for COVID-19 patients. Chief Justice Dipankar Datta said, “In Maharashtra at least for 15 days if people stay strictly indoors, like last year, we may expect better results. We are not issuing any order but the Maharashtra government needs to think about this to control the spread of COVID-19.” Currently CM Uddhav Thackeray has not made any decision about a complete lockdown. Instead the government on 29th April 2021, extended the lockdown-like restrictions till 15th May 7 am. Officials said in view of the current situation, it is important that strict restrictions continue. The hearing of the PIL will continue on May 4  Currently in Section 144 remains in force across Maharashtra more than 4 people are not allowed in a group. Only essential service personnel are allowed to use local train services in Mumbai as well as other public transport in the rest of the state. The government has ordered that vegetable shops, grocery stores and milk outlets can remain open only between 7 am and 11 am. In vaccine related news, the 3rd phase of the Covid-19 vaccination drive beginning on May 1 cannot be launched in Maharashtra because of the unavailability of sufficient doses of vaccines.
